Ashwellthorpe is a Norfolk village some ten miles south west of the City of Norwich and three miles from the market town of Wymondham. The village follows the pattern of many Norfolk settlements being a linear village, which might not be picturesque but which has beautiful and peaceful nooks and crannies, plenty of sky and hedgerow trees seen from an undulating landscape, a quintessential bluebell wood and houses old and new.

If you search the internet you will find Ashwellthorpe inextricably linked with the adjacent village of Fundenhall - which is actually the name given to the Local Government parish of Ashwellthorpe and Fundenhall. This website relates almost entirely to the history of the village of Ashwellthorpe only, although, sometimes, subject matter might overlap. Not much Fundenhall information has come to hand over the years and it would be best for a Fundenhall resident to set up a similar website if desired.
